POWERNEST Sodium-Ion Battery, fully integrated with 5KVA hybrid inverter:
Sodium-ion technology is finally arriving on the photovoltaic market.
“The Asian start-up BIWATT is revolutionizing the photovoltaic storage market by offering a fully integrated ESS solution, based on sodium-ion technology. Powerwall type, the POWERNEST hybrid inverter integrates a power of 5.5 kW in discharge, can manage up to 5000W of solar panels, and includes a 3.6 kWh sodium-ion battery. The cell technology used is of the Sodium-Ion type, manufactured by the Chinese manufacturer HINA. The fully integrated ESS solution is very competitive with the reduced cost of sodium-ion, approximately 30% cheaper than lithium-ion batteries.”

Sodium batteries, a technology that has finally reached maturity, with unique technical advantages:
The Sodium POWERNEST battery incorporates cells from the manufacturer Chinese HINA, one of the major manufacturers of this technology, alongside CATL and FARADION. Sodium-ion technology has several unique advantages:
Abundance of raw materials & reduced cost: Sodium is a very abundant element on Earth, notably in sea salt. This abundance makes sodium-ion batteries potentially cheaper and more environmentally sustainable compared to lithium-ion batteries, whose materials are rarer. The sodium battery collectors use aluminum in particular, against cooking for li-ion batteries, also reducing the ecological impact and the final manufacturing cost. Furthermore, due to the abundant availability of sodium, the production costs of sodium-ion batteries are lower than those of lithium-ion batteries. This makes them attractive for a wide range of applications, particularly in countries and regions where cost is a crucial factor.
Low temperature performance : Sodium-ion batteries tend to have better low temperature performance compared to lithium-ion batteries. This makes them useful in cold environments where other battery types might struggle.
Safety : Sodium-ion batteries are often considered much safer than lithium-ion batteries. They have no risk of overheating or fire, an important advantage for uses in residential or public buildings in particular. The graph below taken from the manufacturer HINA demonstrates an absence of overheating and explosion, even with an overload of up to 6V of the cell!
Durability and stability : Research suggests that sodium-ion batteries may have a longer lifespan and better cyclic stability (ability to maintain performance after many charge and discharge cycles). The graph below shows a cyclical degradation of a HINA sodium cell, discharged at 1/1C. Degradation is minimal after 950 cycles (i.e. approximately 2-3 years of real use).
Safe transport and deep discharge permitted : Sodium batteries can be discharged to 0VDC, without impacting their lifespan. This allows for safe and risk-free transportation.
These advantages make sodium-ion batteries a promising technology for stationary applications.
Sodium-ion, a 100% safe and ecological technology:
- Optimization of self-consumption : via DEYE BOS-G batteries. The surplus from your tertiary photovoltaic plant is reinjected into the batteries via the SMA STPS inverter. The subsequent restitution of energy will be done according to your requirements.
- Peak shaving : smoothing power peaks allows you to lower your subscription power and thus save on your bills.
